The original black convertible top and black vinyl interior (Trim Code 56) have been upgraded to a 1961 Thunderbird Light Pearl Beige leather interior (Trim Code 84) with a tan convertible top.

In the early 1960s, Lee Iacocca, then head of the Ford Division, wanted to recapture the magic of the original two-seat Thunderbirds. Rather than engineer an entirely new chassis, he assigned designer Bud Kaufman to create a visual transformation. Kaufman designed a molded fiberglass tonneau cover that snapped over the rear seats, giving the convertible the appearance of a sleek two-seat roadster whenever the top was down.
